Ariana Grande sent her followers and fans into a paroxysm of worry Thursday afternoon by posting a series of sad and desperate-sounding tweets about her mental health and need for self-care.
But if the singer is going through some kind of crisis you wouldn’t know it by watching her fiance Pete Davidson on “Late Night” with Seth Meyer Thursday.
The “Saturday Night Live” comedian briefly addressed his relationship with Grande on Meyer’s show, but only in the most sunny, upbeat way possible. He joked about how he had shed some of his friends who used to crash at his apartment and he opened up about how he and Grande had adopted a pet pig.
“Can I just say, this girl, she was like, ‘I want a pig!’ And then an hour later it was just there,” Davidson said. Meyer also displayed a photo of the pig, which the couple have named Piggy Smalls, prompting the audience to let out a collective “awwwww.”
But “awwwww” wasn’t the tone Grande conveyed in her apparent Twitter meltdown that began around 2:30 p.m. Thursday.
The tweets raised questions about whether Grande was still deep in mourning over the Sept. 7 death of her ex-boyfriend Mac Miller from a suspected drug overdose — or whether there was something else going on.
Grande’s first tweet was, “can i pls have one okay day. just one. pls.”
She then added, “I’m so (expletive) tired pls” and “jus wake me up when i’m supposed to sing or whatever. peace” minutes later. The singer also retweeted her own Sept 22 tweet assuring fans that “everything will be okay.”
The outpouring of concern from fans and followers included one person tweeting: “We love you so much….
